Koje Area Temporary Unlinking

Koje Area Temporary Unlinking

We want to give players a heads-up that the Koje area will be unlinked from the main game imminently. This will happen with the next major reboot.

This is being done so we can remove and revise a number of problems in the area before it is made accessible again. In its current form, Koje contains material that does not meet our present standards for quality, usability, or setting consistency. Rather than leave it in place while we pick around the edges, we are taking it offline so it can be properly reviewed and rebuilt.

This pass is intended to address several categories of issues, including:
  • areas and items that are inaccessible or only partially accessible because they were over-engineered around romanized terminology
  • NPCs built around racist caricature, including broken pseudo-"Engrish" speech
  • items and equipment that do not function cleanly with our current layering systems
  • names and terms that were effectively fabricated from mashed-together Japanese words rather than constructed with care or consistency
  • a broader lore pass to bring Koje into line with newer setting work, including the recent fall of the Vashan Empire
To be plain: some of this content is simply not good enough, and some of it should not remain in the game in its current form. Unlinking the area gives us room to address those problems responsibly instead of continuing to expose players to material that is awkward, broken, or offensive.

This does not mean Koje is being discarded as a concept. It means the area needs a serious cleanup and lore revision before it can return in a form that better fits the game we are trying to build now.

We appreciate your patience while we do that work.

In the meantime, there is currently a portal in the Kaezar Town Green Center if you wish to travel for free to Koje to experience it before it is shut down for renovations.
Endyce, Administrator of Chaos, Hobo Coder, Shatterer of Dreams.
Sir Martaigne, Knight of the Crown, Champion of Thine, Favored of Fair Hearts.
Two sides of the same coin, slightly tarnished and worse for wear, but still valid currency.
