To use a scroll, you must unroll it.
You can then discern it to try to see what it does. The difficulty varies depending on the scroll's spell level and your skill level in the appropriate spell school.

Casting may also check against the target's defense roll. Invoking and casting may fail altogether if your magic is disrupted by armor. Berserker-primary Mercenaries cannot use scrolls.
